What is Yin Yoga?
It’s yoga, but not as you may know it. In contrast to more dynamic yang styles of yoga, yin poses are held for some time; allowing you to settle in and connect with your unique body. Postures are less uniform, extremely adaptable and mostly floor-based.
Yin yoga works deeply into the body, engaging our connective tissues, meridians and nervous system. Whether or not you are familiar with the Taoist concept of yin and yang, it is clear that constant activity without adequate rest can lead to burnout physically, emotionally, or both. Regular yin yoga practice can help us reset in a relatively short space of time; allowing our active lives to thrive.
Is it for me?
If you have an active mind, yin yoga can help calm it. For those who do a lot of exercise, poses can gently stretch the muscles and enhance flexibility. Additionally, yin yoga can promote better sleep and improve energy flow. Overall, most people will benefit from the balance it brings to busy modern life.
